Thanks to Patti, first for making me smile with her post. And also because I now know why my 2007 post of "Do-Re-Mi" remix is getting so many comments and requests for the song. It is due to a "viral" video/commercial from Germany.

Maybe you all have already seen both these "viral" videos circling the web, but I saw them both for the first time tonight and wanted them in my blog's library. Like this one and this one before it. Maybe I'm just being a sentiment sap because today I just found out that my baby sister is taking a...

As for the song, I can't give it out, I can only share it in a web player. Glad everyone likes it, but it also is not the same remix used in the video. But I've re-posted it below, along with the video.

To Disqus or have an IntenseDebate, that is the question

On my "other" blog, I seriously need a new comment System. SixApart's TypePad Connect seems to be not much more than a poorly realized vision (maybe Motion will be better?). So that leaves IntenseDebate or Disqus.

Sadly, both of them are heavily geared towards WordPress not Moveable Type, which I have on my blog.

I really don't want to transition to WordPress, I've always used MT (well, since GreyMatter went away - how long ago was that???).

Disqus had my interest, until I read that it would not work with MT unless you used static archives (I prefer dynamic - saves space).

Social Networks Are ROTTING YOUR BRAIN!

Shorter attention spans? A lack of empathy. Of course, Facebook caused all that. Teenagers were NEVER this way before social networks. Nope.

A British neuroscientist at Oxford University, Susan Greenfield, is warning that social networking sites such as Facebook, Bebo, MySpace and Twitter are damaging the brains of young people.

Among the damage being caused:

- Shortened attention spans - A lack of empathy - Need for validation from others

Ms. Greenfield also warns of a link between the rise of Internet use and increasing levels of Autism and ADHD.

99 Luftballons vs 99 Red Baloons - Lyrics compared

The clip is pretty poor, you really need to click the link. Then you will see 99 Luftballons in German, the German translated into English and the lyrics as sung in English - not an exact translation as you will see. Very neat to see how it was changed for the English speaking listeners, yet retained the spirit of the original.

I'm not sure who wrote the original English lyrics, but they certainly did a good job at capturing the original spirit of the song. I think it's neat both versions work in Captin Kirk, even if they do come in different stanzas.

BatteryBar for Windows

Today’s Freeware of the Moment is a BatteryBar that does the same thing and works on any Windows PC. There is a full-featured free version that shows the remaining battery life in the taskbar and full information about the battery when you hover over the graphic. There is also a Pro version for $7.50 that supports some extra stuff like themes but I have not found a need to go that route.

BatteryBar is a great addition to the mobile computer toolkit and has worked flawlessly for me on Windows XP, Vista and even Windows 7. Give it a try and you’ll see how useful this simple little tool can be.

How To Turn of Hyperlinks in Excel

Ugh, ever enter an email address or URL into Excel then have to click on the cell? It always makes the text into a link, and launches a browser or Outlook! Here is how to disable them!

Turning Off Hyperlink Activation

Here's how you can turn off this activation so that your URLs remain as regular text. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 2000, Excel 2002, Excel 2003, and Excel 2007.)

Click the Office button and then click Excel Options. Excel displays the Excel Options dialog box.

Click Proofing at the left of the dialog box.

Click the AutoCorrect Options button. Excel displays the AutoCorrect dialog box.

Make sure the AutoFormat As You Type tab is selected. (Click here to see a related figure.)

Clear the Internet and Network Paths With Hyperlinks check box.

Click OK.

The steps to follow are different if you are using Excel 2002 or Excel 2003:

Choose AutoCorrect Functions from the Tools menu. Excel displays the AutoCorrect dialog box.

Make sure the AutoFormat As You Type tab is selected.

Clear the Internet and Network Paths With Hyperlinks check box.

Click OK.

using Excel 2000, your options are severely limited—Excel doesn't allow you to turn off the conversions
