Thanks to Patti, first for making me smile with her post. And also because I now know why my 2007 post of "Do-Re-Mi" remix is getting so many comments and requests for the song. It is due to a "viral" video/commercial from Germany.
Here is her original post:
This was shown before the Easter sermon at church this weekend. It is an audio clip of S M Lockridge describing Jesus Christ - I don't think I've ever heard it put better.
There are dozens of video's put to Lockridge's audio, in fact, there is a blog dedicated to it. Visit http://thatsmyking.wordpress.com/ for more wonderful interpretations of this inspiring sermon.
Found this whilst scrolling through DJ Lobsterdust's blog - a video mash-up of his Unk vs. Avril Lavigne ft. Toni Basil - "Walkin’ Out Yo Girlfriend." Plus, I was tired of seeing my big mouth on the top of this blog.
When I saw this on the Yahoo blog, I had no idea what it was. All I can say is that it is scary how many of these references I actually know. Thankfully, there are some I don't (though "Chocolate Rain" is in there, and that was new to me as of last week).
If anything this video tells me I think I need to spend more time away from the computer!
Thanks to Amanda Webb, of WebbAlert for linking to EACH and EVERY net culture reference in the song! Now I can spend the weekend catching up!
Wow, I had no idea the bizarre Starburst commercial for "Berries and Cream" with the little lad doing the dance, was such a HUGE deal!
Just check out these re-mixes!
....and SO MANY more - wow!
Then visit the official Starburst website to learn to do the dance for yourself. Easy Peasey!
Man, I really hate being behind the curve on internet trends.
I was on my favorite site for music-creation tools, AcidPlanet, and saw a contest about remixing something called "Chocolate Rain."
I clicked the link to YouTube. OK, so a guy sings a song. But then I got to looking at some of the "response" and "tribute" videos.
I am not sure I "get" this one. Is it that the song is that great? Is it that such a deep voice came out of such a normal looking fellow?
Well, I just chalk this one up to the general weirdness of the internet.
Anyhow, if you really, really like "Chocolate Rain" then you might like to listen to all the remixes at the AcidPlanet contest.
Remember the "Rockafire Explosion" Animatronic band from Showbiz Pizza?
Watch this!
I think this is one powerful video.
Even if you are not religious, we can all take something away from this clip that can change our lives. Larry has ALS, and he wants to tell you something he's learned about his life.
Seriously, if you are not moved to tears by the last part, you might want to have someone check your pulse.
If you are religious, you might like to know this is from the LifeChurch.tv sermon series "30 Days To Live." It asks the question: How Would You Live You Life if You Had 30 Days To Live?
All of the sermons are online, and they even have a website dedicated to this series.
Most of us have more than 30 days, shouldn't we start living now?
In an effort to preserve the insanity that was the 80s, I am taking a frightening look back at Male Fashions in the world of 80s Music Videos. I realize I may be overlooking some of the chief offenders, so please leave your suggestions in the comments section.
Jeremy Healey of Haysi Fantyzee in "Shiny Shiny." I think Clamhead's description of his "scarecrow-looking" get-up sums it up well.
Ivan Doroschuk of "Men Without Hats" in "Safety Dance." I think this was a dress rehearsal for Pirates of the Caribbean. video link
Jimmy McShane of "Baltimoria" in "Tarzan Boy." Halfway into the video he shocks us by lowering his snazzy pleather jacket to reveal a Tarzan-like sash - as if the eye make-up wasn't scary enough! video link
Pete Burns of "Dead or Alive" in "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)." I am not sure if it is the fake "bejeweled"eyepatch or the saucy kimono that landed him on this list. video link
Kevin Rowland of "Dexys Midnight Runners" in "Come On Eileen." Can't say I am a big fan of the all-overalls look for a band, but hairy armputs and the beret with the fuzzy ball on top sure completes the look. How could Eileen ever refuse? However, I can't deny that as a teen, I couldn't take my eyes off the blonde in the overalls. video link
Adam Ant in "Ant Music" or any Adam and the Ants video. You have to hand it to Stuart Goddard, no one has ever masterd the Indian-Pirate look as well as he did. video link
Larry Blackmon from Cameo in "Word Up." Red. Codpiece. What more needs to be said? Note that the detective in the video is non other than Star Trek TNGs Llevar Burton. video link
George Michael of "Wham" and the cast of "Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go)." Wow, where do I begin? The "Choose Life" shirt? The neon colored clothes? The Andrew wearing a Painter's Hat? Goodness, this video has just about everything but a mullet! Wait, it has that too! Man, this one has it all! video link
...to be continued!
(be sure to add more badly dressed 80s dudes in the comments!)
Before he went all Hollywood, Steve Martin was a stand-up comedian. No, really. My dad used to listen to "Wild & Crazy Guy" on the 8-track. Um, did that just give away my age???
Anyway, this is Steve's first movie, a short film called the Absent-Minded Waiter.
It will probably be pulled once Steve's people find it online, but for now, enjoy one of his best routines!
